Grandfather. Frederick Johnson.

Here's a photo of Grandfather holding my daughter, Susie, back in 1977.

The curtains look familiar as does the chair he's sitting in. Back then he lived in a little efficiency apartment at the corner of Main and First Street over what used to be the First Citizen's Bank. Across Main Street was Buchanan's Brothers Pharmacy; on the other side stood what is now in 2014 the Citizen's and Northern Bank. Kitty corner from the building stands the Coudersport Theater.

He liked to sit in the window and watch the world going by. He had a good view of Main Street as it ran from Allegheny Avenue over the bridge by Water Street.

He was born March 28th, 1917. Almost a hundred years ago.

Evelyn's 80th Birthday Celebration.

It was a lovely day for a party. Warm, gentle breezes and  bright sunny skies.

Gran loved roses and her birthday cake reflected that love.

The party was held in the basement of the Park United Methodist Church in downtown Coudersport, PA.

Just Married.

I believe this photograph was taken behind Bummie and Bumpie's house on Ellison Avenue in Coudersport, PA.

Johnson Family Beginnings.

Fred, Evelyn and Gail Johnson in 1942.

All dressed up in their finest. Everyone looking at the photographer. Look at the sweet almost-shy smiles on their faces. Natural smiles that reach their eyes.

Grandfather manages to look both handsome and proud. I don't think I've ever seen Gran looking so happy. Mom is simply adorable with her wide-open eyes, chubby cheeks and full head of hair.

From the way they are posed I am guessing that this is a studio shot. Possibly from Olin Mills.

No date is noted, but Mom was born in November and she appears to be about a year old. My reasoning being that if she was two her hair would be longer. Other date clues are the sweater Grandfather is wearing over his shirt and tie. The sleeves on Gran's dress are three-quarter length also - leading me to believe that it was taken in the winter.
